LEARNING

Where are we going?

You might be wondering about the learning and digital transformation going on at SSP this year. The newsletter will be one way we communicate to you about such things. Our Parent Forums this year will be another way to keep you informed, along with using technology (e.g. You Tube) to help you visualise our work.

Have you noticed some different furniture and classroom set ups this year?

As a learning organisation, St Simon Peter recognises the changing needs of students; our moral imperative is to respond to the uncapped potential of 21st century learners. Our motivation is to ignite learning in others, to kindle curiosity and creativity and to light up the potential of the human mind. In line with the school’s Strategic Plan, St Simon Peter Catholic Primary School will provide challenges and opportunities for the growth of the whole person. We aim to foster critical thinking, collaboration, culture, connectivity, communication and creativity using new pedagogies. The core components of these new pedagogies are developing new learning partnerships, engaging in deep learning tasks and the use of digital tools and resources.

Please use the link below to click on to discover why teachers are changing their pedagogy to reflect how kids learn these days.

ENGAGEMENT

Outdoor Movie Night

What a fabulous night we had for our family outdoor movie night. We had just over 400 people attend, a record! Special thanks to the Fundraising & Social Committee for their organisation of this event and to the staff who attended.

Easter Raffle

Pre-Primary and Kindy are asking for donations of Easter Eggs and baskets that can be used for our Easter Raffle. Any donations can be taken straight to the Pre-Primary classes or given to your classroom teacher. We thank you for your generosity in supporting this fundraising project which will help to supply reading resources in our Pre Primary and Kindy classrooms.

Raffle tickets have already been sent home with the eldest child. More tickets are available from Pre-Primary. The Easter raffle will be drawn at 2.00pm on Thursday 6 April. Good luck to everyone in the draw.

HOPE - Easter Egg Hunt

HOPE will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday 31 March 2017 at 3.30pm.

Please see the attached flyer for details and RSVP slip.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Ella Dow (5LT) who won gold at the Surf Club State Championships recently. Well done, Ella!

ACCOUNTABILITY

Open Morning

We will be hosting an open morning to conduct a tour of our school for prospective new families on Friday 24 March 2017, with two tour times being led by Shane, the first at 9.15am and the second at 11.15am. Details have been advertised in the local papers and on Facebook and are set out below.

House Swimming Carnival

Last Thursday students from Years 4 to 6 participated in our annual swimming carnival at The Arena Joondalup. A wonderful time was had by all and at the conclusion of the carnival Salvatorian Sharks won the shield. The final points tally and a list of individual medal winners follows for you all to read. Thank you to the very big list of parents who helped on the day!

A team of interschool swimmers has been selected from our carnival and they are competing at The Arena Joondalup on Thursday 23 March. They have received their information letters this week and we wish them well!

Year 3 Zoo Excursion

Last Wednesday, 15 March, the Year 3’s visited the Perth Zoo to support their learning in science around classifying animals. While at the Zoo, each class got to participate in an engaging education experience run by Perth Zoo, as well as getting to see, hear and touch some of their favourite animals! Even though only half of us made it back on time, all students were spectacularly well behaved on the day (especially the students that were left behind!) and students, teachers and parents all had a fabulous time!

Music and Instrumental Program

Is your child interested in learning to play the violin? If so, please see the attached details, together with the link to access all of the information in relation to the instrumental program we have on offer at St Simon Peter. Registration forms can be submitted to the administration office via email at admin@ssp.wa.edu.au.

Joondalup Performing Arts and Cultural Facility survey for our school community

The Joondalup Performing Arts and Cultural Facility will be a crucial piece of social, cultural and economic infrastructure and the last piece in the jigsaw to make Joondalup the truly great City envisaged by Sir Charles Court when Joondalup was first planned. It is a key component in the development of the region’s cultural identity and social harmony through contemporary multicultural arts practice. It will also drive greater economic development opportunity and further strengthen Joondalup’s position as a major tourist hub, a Destination City and the Capital of the North.

All schools in the City of Joondalup who support the field of arts and culture, and can see the benefits the JPACF will provide our school and its students, are being asked to actively support the JPACF and engage their own networks to do likewise by completing an online survey.

Please go online and complete the Comment Form for JPACF
