Student reports for Semester 1 went live this morning at 10.30am. Please login to SEQTA Engage to access them.
Please see the link to the recent parent survey which had over 400 responses submitted which is a brilliant response. Now that we have this feedback we will keep you informed on decisions and any related matters going forward.
This week we say farewell to one of our much-loved staff members. Robyn Savage has taught Kindy at SSP for a number of years and has worked with many students. Now it is time for Robyn to put her feet up and enjoy a very happy retirement. Robyn, we thank you for the contribution you have made to St Simon Peter School and wish you and Gary all the best.
St Simon Peter Day
This week we celebrate our school and its heritage, firstly with a whole school Mass on Thursday 29 June at 9.00am. We would love to see lots of parents/families join us for this.
On Friday 30 June, we have some fun events. We start with our major school fundraising event for the year – the Fun Run for Pre Primary – Year 6 students. Students have been busy getting sponsorship for this event to assist the school in furthering our Nature Play areas and IT resources. For students to claim their prizes for participating, they need to return the portion on the back page of the sponsorship booklet which MUST include the total amount raised (cash and online) and their preferred prizes. This can be sent in this week or must be in by Friday of Week 1 next term at the very latest.
Our stalls will be held after lunch and families are once again welcome to join us. The various stalls help us to raise money for those less fortunate than us and will be a fun way to finish the term. A reminder that students wear free dress for a gold coin donation, but need to wear clothes suitable for the Fun Run.
Mr Baker is waiting on confirmation of the agreement made with the City of Joondalup that appears to have been ignored as clearly evidenced by yesterday afternoon’s presence of Parking Rangers interfering with our normal Kiss N Ride operations here at the school. He is now in contact with the Mayor who has promised some follow up to Mr Baker’s most recent letter on this matter.
In the interim some alternatives for parking or waiting for pick up time for you might include across the road from the school in the Prendiville Catholic College’s drive through, verge parking on Santiago and parking at Santiago Reserve (entering through the oval access gate at the back of the ELC building). Thanks for your cooperation.
As of Term 3, School Banking will be on a Thursday from 8.00am. We'll be in the same place - near the canteen.
URGENT ACTION REQUIRED!! Schoolzine App
SSP's main form of communication going forward will be via the Schoolzine App. If you have previously downloaded SZapp, but have not created an account, please ensure that you register within SZapp, so that we are able to send you one on one communication.
This week we continue our exploration of the Code of Conduct for Catholic Schools.
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
The Code applies to staff, students, volunteers, parents and guardians as applicable. The term ‘parents’ includes guardians.
Conduct Statement 3
You act in accordance with the values of the Gospel as defined in the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- You are mindful that your decisions and behaviour are opportunities for students and others to see Gospel values in action and how faith integrates with life. Therefore, you are responsible for educating yourself and anyone you lead on the content of those values, and their practical application in your decision making.
- You acknowledge that as a member of a Catholic school community, you are required to strive to develop and live out your relationships with all people in a manner that is based on Gospel values as defined in the CECWA Code of Ethical Conduct.
Conduct Statement 4
You conduct yourself in accordance with laws, agreements, policies and standards relevant to your relationship with the school community.
- You respect both the person and property of students and their families, and of other members of the school community, and the property and finances of the school.
- You use school property and resources responsibly and for the purposes of the school.
School Board News
Due to increased work commitments our current Board Treasurer, Alistair Dawson, has resigned from the role (but will be staying on the Board). We need to co-opt a new person onto the Board to fill this vacancy on the Finance Team.
This is an invitation to our parent community to please consider joining the Board for the remainder of 2017. This would be a co-opted position to join the Finance Team with a view to nominating for a position on the Board in 2018. Please consider this as a great opportunity to really get to understand the financial management of our school.
Experience and qualifications in business, financial planning or accounting would be necessary for the role. The Finance Team meets once a month for an hour at a convenient time for all, before the monthly Board meeting. Board meetings are held every 4th Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8.00pm at the school. Nominations will need to be forwarded to by Monday 17 July 2017.
Kindergarten 2019 Enrolments
We are now processing our enrolments for Kindergarten for 2019. If you have a child born between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015 and you have not yet submitted your child's application, we urge you to do so by completing an Expression of Interest form and sending it to our admin office at as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment. Please click on the link below to access the Expression of Interest Form:
We will be hosting an open morning to conduct a tour of our school for prospective new families on Friday 28 July 2017, with a tour being led by Mr Baker at 9.30am. Details have been advertised on Facebook, via Schoolzine and are set out below.
2017 Music Concert
The Music Concert was brilliant again this year. The children really stepped up and their performances were of a high standard. Each year the talent just gets stronger.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, especially our tutors who do an amazing job working with the children at SSP under what most days is difficult timetabling and room allocations. We really appreciate their ongoing flexibility, hard work and passion towards our Music Program.

We congratulate all of our Year 6 students who made the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. We offer this prayer for you.
Spirit of God, grant me:
The gift of wisdom to see the world through your eyes,
The gift of counsel to make difficult decisions,
The gifts of knowledge and understanding to use my mind to know you and to love you,
The gift of fortitude to have the courage to live in the faith despite the difficulties and disappointments,
The gift of piety to be able to express my special love and commitment to you,
And the right kind of awesome fear that makes me pause to wonder and revere God’s Love.
We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Thanks to all the staff, students, parents and families who have contributed to this successful term. We will see students return to school on Tuesday 18 July 2017.
