Skilled at Chilled
15 Mar 2018
Today was another packed house at our ‘Skilled at Chilled” lunchtime session for seniors. This session is an optional lunchtime opportunity run by Laura Pope (School Social Worker) for those students wanting to learn more about the benefits of mindfulness/relaxation.
Childhood and adolescence are important developmental stages that construct the foundations for mental health in adults. Research supports that mindfulness based school programs that use age-appropriate techniques have demonstrated a range of social, cognitive and emotional benefits for primary aged children. Sessions run every week on a Wednesday (seniors) and Thursday (juniors) at lunchtime. If you feel your child may benefit encourage them to come along – they will love it!!
Have a great day!
Swimming Carnival Thursday 15 March 2018
14 Mar 2018
Just a reminder that all students in Yr 4-6 are involved in the annual Swimming Carnival at Arena Joondalup on Thursday 15th March.
All students from Yr 4-6 will be going to the pool on the day to take part in the carnival in some way, whether that be by swimming in traditional races, noodle races, or cheering on their team mates. Please note that spectator fees apply if you wish to come along and cheer the swimmers on but it is it money well spent!
Unfortunately, this year Arena won’t allow the school to provide the parent helpers with some sandwiches and a drink for lunch, so please come prepared with either your own food or money. A reminder as well that this rule means there will be no canteen orders from our school on the day and students must bring their own lunch and drink from home. Students should wear their house sports uniform and either their sports shoes or thongs if they wish to do so.
The students have been reminded that they should not be sharing lollies or food with other students at the carnival because of allergy concerns and that Arena does not allow coloured jelly type lollies, streamers, face paint or hair dye because of the damage they cause to the pool and surrounds.

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
12 Mar 2018
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is fast approaching. More than 2300 schools have already signed on with more than one million students committed to take a stand. SSP is one of these schools.
We believe all students have the right to be safe at school. Bullying and violence has no place in Australia.
This is our chance to stand together. Together we can reduce the incidence of bullying, whether inside the school gate or online, and eliminate it wherever we can.
Friday, 16 March 2018 is an opportunity for Australian schools to stand united in their communities to say that bullying and violence is unacceptable. Classes will be engaged in various activities this week to make this point.
As you may know, the National Day of Action is Australia's key anti-bullying event for Schools.
I hope you had a pleasant long weekend. The staff enjoyed the chance yesterday to work with the staff from Whitford and Padbury Catholic Primary Schools, with over 170 staff attending the day hosted by Padbury CPS. Our topic for the day was LEADing Lights – the digital transformation going on in our CEWA schools. The CEWA based team of consultants led the morning, bringing us up to speed with the most commonly used applications of Microsoft 365. The afternoon was led by teachers from the 3 schools, running short sessions on classroom applications of the digital technology curriculum which is now mandated for all schools from the start of this year. Well done to Lisa Serrangeli, Sharon Watterson, Ainslee Oakes and Ashlee Martino from SSP who ran some sessions that were really well attended.
The last part of the afternoon was a school planning session for each school, facilitated by the Principal that allowed staff to discuss and offer feedback on topics like – school based communications, the non-negotiables of Microsoft 365, management of devices and processes for collaborating about this transformation.
Kind regards SSP
